Meet Laurel!

Scorpio sun, Leo rising, Virgo moon

Hi, I'm Laurel (and sometimes Lilith, she/her pronouns), a Jamaican immigrant living in New York with a passion for animals, the environment, mental health, science, and art.

In 2020, I graduated with First Class Honors in animal biology (with a minor in psychology). This background, which helped me navigate my own spiritual crisis, fuels my work at SpectacuLaur Thoughts. However, 2020 was also the year that I got into astrology, as the beginning of my spiritual crisis which manifested as an acute psychotic episode was precipitated by the first full moon in October. This culminated in my studying astrology from a scientific and psychological perspective, taking note of the effects of various astrological events on my bodymind and our consensus reality. Doing this helped me to liberate myself from the psychiatric system. Thus, to share the insight I gained with others who are depathologizing themselves and fighting for liberation, I started hosting a monthly New Moon Liberation Circle in January 2024. Having met kay in healing spaces beforehand, she proposed collaboration when she attended one of my sessions. Her presence and insight truly enhanced the session we collaborated on, so I'm looking forward to our upcoming gatherings! These meetings are free to attend because I believe that making healing spaces accessible to those with low-income is key to us successfully creating a liberated future.

I’d like to connect more with people who value science and spirituality equally, and to build more community in which I feel more supported and optimistic, as my work and unique perspectives can sometimes leave me feeling isolated and depleted. I create content to inspire hope, provide education on how to view mental illness through a decolonized lens, and share my own story. I also offer support to empower people living with mental health challenges to believe they hold the key to a better world, a world we can co-create together. Meet ziggy!

IMG_5494.jpg

hi! my name is ziggy brubaker (they/them); i'm an aquarius sun (pisces cusp), virgo moon & rising based out of the Philadelphia area (known also as Lenapehocking). i am autistic/neurodiverse and disabled :) i learned about CH from a disability justice account i follow on IG as i've been trying to engage more with my own disability and community-based healing. astrology has provided helpful guidance for my growth and self-exploration during this time. disability justice more broadly, as well as mad justice and liberation, de/post-colonial theory, traditional/indigenous wisdom and ways of knowing, anarchist philosophies, and liberative theology have also brought me healing, hope, and visions for a better future. i'm excited to build more connections and community in this space! in my own journey, i have been most interested in better understanding and developing my own skills and calling toward healing and community-building. i am interested in holding in-between space, to be a bridge between worlds and realities, past and present, traditional knowledges and practices and present-day lived realities. i am a strong believer in the healing powers of ritual and community. i am a firm believer in magic, even if my definition of it is less firm!

my heritage is Pennsylvania German (aka PA Dutch); my ancestors were swiss-germans who relocated to PA over 300 years ago. for 2 years now i've been studying braucherei, a form of PA German folk healing and folk magic with a strong flavor of pre-reformation german catholicism. it's essential to me that my practice comes from my own roots, and i am eager to connect with others who are learning ancestral healing practices or simply exploring their heritage. i am very interested in queer/culturally marginalized reclamation of christian theology, learning about folk wisdom/practice from other traditions, plant medicine, and (personal favorite) natural systems, urban biodiversity, and bugs especially! i am eager to build/join/contribute to a robust community based on shared living through shared values of love, grace, poverty+abundance, and radical care. i am seeking out those who have already fallen through the cracks or are making their way through; the new world is what we make it!

if you're interested in any of this or just want to talk, please reach out! you can check out my website publicuniversalfriend.space and i’m available via email at [email protected]
