As a reluctantly tropical and proudly disabled astrologer, i (kay) bring disability justice insight into the planet placements deemed debilitated, or weak, within Hellenistic astrology. I remember studying my chart at the beginning of my delve into astrology and feeling a bit cursed in finding that I had three major debilitated placements, but rather than ignore the "essential dignities" of the planets altogether, I wanted to confront the assumptions and characterizations of these placements.
The planetary debilitation assumes that the planet is uncomfortable or unresourced in given signs, and I explore in my presentation how the prescriptions these astrologers provided for how the planets are meant to act need not be followed in perpetuity, as these narratives reflect the nature of Their Time, Their Society, and Their Positionality. And on the basis that the planets harness and release different energies through their cycles, these are simply different planets than in the Hellenistic age. And i’m not one to let some white guys dictate the Ideal archetypes, energies, and inclinations for me or my clients.
We've gotten to share these past few explorations with nearly 100 people so far (did you miss them and do you want to change that? check them out here!), and it's my hope to continue expanding this framework in collaboration with others, as astrology is, of course, a collective meaning making practice. So to make space for more discussion & collective meaning making, we've separated this exploration into two. The presentation is here now and indefinitely.
