The Pandemic Solidarity for Long Futures virtual convening was a hopeful place. As someone who gets icked out by idea of virtual reality, i can get behind virtual spaces deeply situated and grounded in our earth-bound realities. Connecting people across time and space is magic that’s only been available to us for a short time, and it’s a gift i’m appreciating as a means to continue valuing connection while its so dangerous to be convening in-person. I’m meeting people I wouldn’t be able to in third spaces anymore. People who value collective longevity. Deeply kind people who center the chronically ill and disabled. Chronically ill and disabled folks who understand how nuanced and sacred and hellish and beautiful it is to be in a body. Who know how IMPORTANT it is to experience moments without chronic pain and/or fatigue, and who wouldn’t wish it on anybody, even those recklessly endangering their lives and the lives of anyone who crosses their paths. People who have taken these years to grow, to look within, to re-prioritize and divest and explore and radically reframe what it means to be alive. People who are rejecting the shit out of capitalism and labor and systems of oppression. I’m excited to continue meeting these people and meeting more of myself in the process. Reach out to meeee if we connected there or missed each other, or even if you weren’t there at all but would have liked to have been.
