For anyone who might not know what sensitivity reading is: it’s reading works of writing for authors to ensure they are authentically, accurately, and sensitively speaking to experiences they may not have personally lived (and even if they have, getting another perspective). For example, a thin + queer Korean author from Kansas may want me to sensitivity read for them because I’m a Black, fat, queer person from the South who grew up with divorced parents and one of their characters has a similar background. Essentially I’m out here making sure characters and storylines don’t fall prey to harmful and flat stereotypes.
